A Green and Red UFO Attracted (military?) Airplanes

An unusual light was seen Tuesday afternoon (June the 4th, 2002.) and Tuesday/Wednesday night (June the 4th & 5th,2002.), over Velebit, Podvelebitski Channel and Pag. The first phone call about it was received in Radio Pag soon after 6PM, and another one at 8:30 PM.

 Among first witnesses was a group of German tourists visiting Pag that found themselves on a walkway near “Pagus” hotel, one “Hrvatske Ceste” (“Croatian Roadways”) employee from Zagreb visiting Pag on business, and a few families from southwest part of Pag – from the Vodice area. Right after the first call about unusual light phenomenon, C.I.M.P. (“Centar za istrazivanje misterioznih pojava” or Center for Misterious Phenomena Research) of Pag was informed about it. Its members organized a sky watching action from 6:30 until 8:00 PM. However, nothing was seen during that period.

The unusual light was slowly rising

 At 9:30 PM another message about the unusual effect arrived to Radio Pag. A C.I.M.P. member Josip Fabijanic managed to take a photo of the unusual phenomenon in the last few seconds it could be seen from the balcony of his house in Vodice. The phenomenon was round, at moments cylindrical, and it was changing colors. Green spectrum was stronger on the outside, on the edges, and red on the middle part. The unusual effect was slowly rising and, as was obvious from conversations with witnesses, it stood in one spot for about fifteen minutes. After that, it went up and – disappeared. At 9:45 PM airplanes were seen flying around the spot where the phenomenon was, at least one coming from north and another from east. The night was cloudy, which means that the unusual lighting object (that was at least double the size of the airplane that flew by later) was flying relatively low. 
C.I.M.P. members said the unusual flying object appeared almost at the same spot as the UFO that appeared over Pag on December 13, 1997, and that its path was almost identical.

 Those who saw the unusual effect around 6PM said that there were two objects, completely identical, cylindrical, but at moments round.

 “Right after I heard about the lighting object above northern Pag I tried to take a photo of it. I succeeded only in the last seconds, when it was already disappearing, and only one shot turned out right. But even that only photo is a valuable document that C.I.M.P. will continue to research,” said Josip Fabijanic.

The Pag Triangle, situated on "Tusto celo" brow, on Pag island, represents a specific mystery of UFO world.  A triangular odd-behaving flying object appeared in the Pag skies in 1967. First witnesses were people living in the Kunteja area, not far from the building where police station used to be. A large number of people, mostly children, ran to the area where the flying object appeared to be.

 “From time to time it appeared that the triangular flying object was heading for the ground and that it was going to land,” said one of the witnesses, M. N. “It was triangular with a square ending at the top of each corner, and it glowed in different colors, from red through bluish to green. It was something very unusual and beautiful.”

 Pag police station was on alert. One of the witnesses said that many thought it was an American spy plane. At that time, the Cold War was still on between USSR and USA. That is why many believed that it was some sort of a spy airplane. Although it was never officially confirmed, many who witnessed the event said that armed policemen went out towards the meadows where it appeared the flying object would land. The UFO was circling in the sky in an unusual manner, heading for the ground from time to time, so many believed that it was actually looking for a spot to land on. However, it did not land. Witnesses agree that the UFO was above the Kiršina area, floating in the air, moving unnaturally, changing colors and looked like it was rather close to the ground. According to witness accounts, a drawing of the 1967 UFO was made.

 Despite all efforts, it was not possible to get to the police archive that would attest to what went on in the Pag police station at that time. This is not unusual, because everything happened long ago, so the archive is spread around in different places. However, it is possible that nothing was recorded at all. One of policemen on duty that day sad later, when he retired, that nothing was recorded, because nobody knew what they should record. But, another retired policeman, active in 1967, confirmed that the military and police authorities in charge in Zagreb were notified immediately.
 The fact that many witnesses, who were children at the time, remembered every detail about the event years later goes to show how impressive the 1967 happening was. The witness accounts were unanimous in everything – the way it moved, its shape and the way it changed colors – without a single inconsistency.

Reconstruction of the 1967 event shows that the UFO appeared from northeast of the town of Pag. At first it was moving at a steady pace, then it stopped in the sky, over the area called Kiršina. It was hovering in that spot for a while, but it did not stand still. It moved in an unusual way, making circles that airplanes or helicopters could never make. At times it went a little further away, then a little closer, went north a few times, then headed west, but never moved far away from Kiršina. Someone watching from the ground could cover the whole maneuvering area with his two hands. UFO hovered over Pag for a long time, from morning until late afternoon. After that, it started moving toward the northeast. It was obvious that it was moving away. However, at one moment it stopped. It hovered for a while facing Velebit mountain, still moving unusually in a few directions, circling, and then all of the sudden it disappeared in the sky “in a blink of an eye,” say the witnesses.

 “What fascinated me the most was the unusual movement, fast direction changes and quick stopping, as if it would break and stop in a spot,” said one of the witnesses.

 There was something else unique about the Pag 1967 UFO. In UFO literature one can often find unusual lighting phenomena, just like the one that appeared over Pag in 1997. However, in this case it was not only the lights. In this case, witnesses clearly saw the flying object’s outlines, which is considered unusual worldwide. It was not something of an undefined shape, something that used its lights to hide its shape. In this case, the seeing of the UFO was so clear that almost every detail of how it looked could be reconstructed.

Here is what one of the witnesses says about it:
“The event was very exciting and in itself unusual. We saw a flying object, and it was clear to everyone that it was an object that appeared to be very close. I remember some people estimating that the object could not be higher than 200-300 meters. To me it appeared to be even closer at times. But, the weirdest thing was that it appeared to be almost the same size all the time, when it was close and when it seemed that it was going away, which was hard for me to explain and understand. Later on, I read a lot about UFOs and only now I understand that what we saw over Pag does not have much in common with other sightings of similar flying objects. In fact, we have not seen any shine or anything similar. We saw a flying object, very clearly, like you could see an airplane or a helicopter if it was flying low. We saw all the details of this object, we could draw it, we saw its bottom changing colors in straight lines that follow the shape of the triangle. So, it wasn’t something that flashed by and disappeared. It was something completely clear, a sight you never forget.”

A retired policeman, active at the time, told later:
“In the station we had only one Russian camera, I think it was of “Zenit” brand. With that camera we could not take any photos. There was a big fuss, sure as hell, people gathered, everyone came to watch it, and how wouldn’t they when that thing that showed up was like nothing anyone saw before. We thought this and that, who knows what it is, but nobody could tell us what it was. I remember the children ran up, toward Murvica, they yelled that it was going down, but hell, it didn’t land. If we had a better camera, maybe we would take some pictures, but even if we did, what would you see? It was something in the shape of a triangle, it had lights all over, on the corners of the triangle, and from its bottom it shined something out, like some color. It was moving, but it wasn’t even like an airplane, wasn’t like anything else. Like it was running in the sky, one minute here, the next there. They told me later that surely we were looking at a flying thing from Space, but I don’t believe it. To tell you the truth, it did not even interest me. But still, if we could take a picture of it, who knows, maybe later other people, who do that sort of thing, could tell us what it was. I don’t know what it was, didn’t know then and I don’t know now.”
